Immigration Health Surcharge increase imminent

The much-anticipated increase to the immigration health surcharge has finally been passed into law and will apply from 6th February 2024 following the passing of the Immigration (Health Charge) (Amendment) Order 2024 on 16th January 2024. The commencement provisions state that the Order will come into force on the later of 16th January 2024 or the 21st date after the day the Order was made.

The increase means that all visa applicants who are liable to pay the immigration health surcharge will be charged £1,035 per year of permission to enter or remain in the UK, up from the current levels of £624 per year. Students, children and Youth Mobility Scheme applicants will pay a lower fee of £776 per year, up from £470.

Time is therefore of the essence. Anyone planning on making a visa application in the near future should consider whether they can submit their application before 6th February 2024 to avoid the increase. For advice and assistance in making an application before 6th February, please get in touch with a member of our immigration team.
